Croydon, the village, was laid out in 1855 and comprised Croydon Farm of 40 acres, the remainder being subdivided into five acres lots. It is said to have come from a French word 'craye' (chalk) and the Saxon word 'dun' (hill) - a town near a chalk hill.
Area:approx. 16.9km2
Location: Situated to the north-west of the City of Adelaide and bounded in the south by the River Torrens/Karrawirra Parri. Largely residential with some light industry.
History: Created at the 1998 redistribution (formerly named Spence), the 2003 redistribution made no changes to the boundaries.
