Electoral Districts / HARTLEY John Anderson Hartley (1844-1896) was the first chief executive of the system of compulsory education established for the Province in 1875. For two decades he shaped the course of the public education system in South Australia and contributed textbooks, a children's magazine and regulations for education staff in a constant endeavour to improve standards. Area:approx. 14.3km2 Location: To the east of Adelaide some 5 km from the CBD, bounded by the River Torrens/Karrawirra Parri in the north-west, it includes mostly residential suburbs. History: The district was created at the 1976 redistribution of electoral boundaries. Minor changes were made to the boundaries at the 2003 redistribution.
