Telephone Assisted Voting | Blind, sight impaired, low vision or motor impaired electors

Details
Published: 19 March 2026

Telephone Assisted Voting is OPEN; 1300 951 579

The Telephone Assisted Voting service will allow eligible enrolled electors to cast their vote anonymously over the phone for both the 2026 South Australian State and First Nation Voice elections. This service is for enrolled electors who are sight impaired or cannot vote without assistance due to motor impairment.

Opening Days/Hours:

Telephone assisted voting will be available from Saturday 14 March to Saturday 21 March 2026, (closed Sunday 15 March).

Thursday 19 March

Registration and Voting - 8am to 8pm

Friday 20 March

Registration and Voting - 8am to 6pm

Saturday 21 March

Registration - 8am to 4pm
Voting - 8am to 6pm

Process:

Voting by phone is a two-part process – registering for the service, then casting your vote over the phone.

Step one: Registering for Telephone Assisted Voting

  • The elector calls our team on 1300 951 579 to register for telephone voting.
  • The elector provides their personal information to be verified on the electoral roll.
  • The elector confirms their eligibility to use the telephone voting service.
  • The elector will set a secret question/answer and be issued a unique identifying number verbally, via SMS, or via email. (Please note that SMS and email may take up to 30mins to be delivered)

Step two: Cast your vote

  • The elector will either be transferred to the voting team, or will call back on 1300 951 579 when ready to vote.
  • The elector provides their unique identifying number, and answer to the secret question.
  • A voting assistant will record the elector’s vote.
  • A second voting assistant listens to the call and acts as a witness to ensure the vote is recorded accurately.
  • The completed ballot paper is sealed in an envelope marked with the elector’s district, signed by the witness, and deposited into a ballot box.

In person voting

When and where to vote

Polling day is Saturday 21 March 2026.

The early voting period is from 14 March 2026 - 20 March 2026 (excluding Sunday 15 March 2026), with polling day 21 March 2026.

Polling booths open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

In early March, South Australian voters received an EasyVote Card in the post. These included accessibility ratings for polling locations on the back.

The card features a unique QR code that can be scanned when you go to vote. This will instantly mark your name off the electoral roll, making your voting experience streamlined and faster.

The card also includes a list of your nearest polling booths.

PS Don't worry if you forget to bring the card or your phone to the polling booth. You can still vote. We will mark your name off the electoral roll manually.
