A sea change to a paradise known as Kangaroo Island in July 2020 has prompted me to nominate for a position on Council. As a visitor to the Island over the past 22 years I have seen the Island grow from an unknown haven to a thriving tourist destination. I am currently enjoying my new challenge as Owner/Operator of the American River Post Office and General Store where I have been sincerely welcomed by locals, seasonal and first- time visitors. Home is now in American River where I have found fabulous people, great food, and magnificent scenery. Although being relatively new to the Island as a resident, I believe I can contribute to the commitment of the council to move forward and make serviceable improvements whilst maintaining the tranquil grandeur of the island. The Clare and Gilbert Valleys is one of the best places to live and work in South Australia. I would love to be elected to the council to ensure this situation is not only maintained but improves. If elected, my goal is for our community to be both economically and environmentally sustainable into our future. I have lived in the region for the past 20 years with my partner Simon and our 2 children. In that time I have been involved with many community groups; such as the Minman Sporting Club, The Riesling Trail Management Committee, The Watervale Community Association, Climate Connect Mid North to name a few. My employment history shows a long-term commitment to the wine industry and local tourism through my roles in the cellar doors at Taylors, Crabtree and Sevenhill. I believe I have the necessary skills and experience to represent you whole-heartedly on our Council.

I am a lifetime local of Clare Valley. Innovative and diverse in my thinking, I had the vision to introduce the first Bobcat loader to the district, then owning a private wool buying business. I am currently a tour operator known colloquially as Mr Willson. I held the positions of founding Vice Chair and Chair of the Clare Valley Flying Group for ten years, instrumental in the inception and development of the Clare Valley Aerodrome. I have travelled Australia proudly promoting the Clare Valley region to Australia's leading domestic and international tourism bodies. Invited to nominate, I asked myself, Why go on Council? Hosting guests from all over the world, a regular comment is, What a beautiful region you live in, so diverse with so much to offer. The answer to Why? it's my time and my way to give back to a region that has been good to me.

My young family and I reside in Riverton. With the expanding interests and curiosities of my children, I aim at providing an exciting and flourishing region for them to grow into and explore. Growth and development in our regional centres and open space areas will drive local business and encourage this growth. I come from a military background and am currently employed in another Council's governance team providing me with broad knowledge, experience and no-nonsense decision making, an asset to Council. I am a member of the Riverton RSL and Riverton golf club. I am excited for this opportunity to grow not just Riverton but the wider community, it is our community so let us build it together.

City of Unley - Parkside Ward - 9 Sept 2020
A local resident in Parkside, who also lives in your Ward, I'm running in this election to ensure that we continue to enjoy our green, shady and 'cool' suburbs; a community where over-development is averted, local history and heritage is maintained and acknowledged, and where responsible and proactive waste management exists. I aim to address traffic problems and advocate for equitable funds for our Ward, coupled with downward pressure on rates; ensuring attention is given to footpaths, roads and nurturing our loved and enjoyed open spaces, preserving our village atmosphere and growing our communal facilities. My experience working across government and with the community has developed my understanding of local issues, with recent events demonstrating the importance of communities and our local businesses being connected to and supporting one another. I will represent your interests to the best of my ability, striving for a diverse, inclusive and accessible City.

I am passionate about our community and making it even better. I know that what matters for each member of the community is to have a voice and enjoy clean and safe streets. Having degrees in Law and Politics and being a small business owner, I am very committed to responsible fiscal stewardship, especially in these difficult times. Having served on Unley Council, 2014-2018, I know how the Council operates and how to get things done. I have always supported to limit any increase in rates to CPI+1 percent, despite other's calls to go higher. I am committed to a rate freeze until the economy recovers. Its time Council starts planning long term, invest in projects that deliver savings and make our community more sustainable, like solar with batteries for all Council buildings, capturing and reusing more stormwater. I ask for support to be your voice.

I am employed in the University sector and have worked as a consultant for local government on community, infrastructure and transport projects. I see Parkside regenerating with new, diverse families enriching our community. But Parkside is also under redevelopment pressure and broader challenges. As your representative, I'm committed to: ensuring redevelopment is human-scale and sympathetic to Parkside's character; championing Unley's leadership in addressing climate change and creating resilient communities; maintaining and creatively expanding our high quality green-spaces and promoting active travel; listening to and keeping residents informed; fostering responsive services that meet diverse, changing community needs; ensuring financial responsibility.
