District Council of Robe - Area Councillor - 24 February 2023

The election of a serving area councillor to the position of mayor resulted in an area councillor position being vacated.

Section 6A of the Local Government (Elections) Act 1999 was applied to fill this vacancy.

The candidates who were not elected in the November 2022 periodic elections were asked to confirm their willingness and eligibility to be elected to this vacancy. As 5 candidates were determined willing and eligible to be elected to the vacancy, a recount of the votes cast at the periodic elections was conducted. 

First preference votes

First preference votes were distributed to the 5 eligible candidates, and ballot papers with no preference expressed for an eligible candidate were recorded as exhausted. Below are the first preference votes received by the candidates in the order they appeared on the ballot paper.

LAURIE David Park After the distribution of preferences, David Park LAURIE obtained 403 votes and was declared elected under quota at 1:24 pm on Friday 24 February 2023.

Kingston District Council - Area Councillor - 20 February 2023

The election of a serving area councillor to the position of mayor resulted in an area councillor position being vacated.

Section 6A of the Local Government (Elections) Act 1999 was applied to fill this vacancy.

The candidates who were not elected in the November 2022 periodic elections were asked to confirm their willingness and eligibility to be elected to this vacancy. It was determined that only one candidate was willing and eligible.

PARKINS James Therefore, James PARKINS was declared elected to the vacancy on 20 February 2023.

As a lifelong resident and home owner, 42 years in Penzance Street, I understand the local issues. With tertiary achievements in Science, Education, Psychology and Law along with 8 years as Councillor, Audit Committee chair as well as experience as a company director, I offer the skills to oversee the $70 Million enterprise that is council. I am a creative, positive thinking reformer who will continue to drive new ideas, scrutinise the old ones and develop long term strategies to ensure council is efficient and well prepared for the changes that time brings. I will continue to work to preserve our heritage and ensure pleasant, safe suburbs with a high quality of life. I posses the wisdom and humour that comes from being Dad to 3 children.

If elected I will strive to ensure sound decisions are made reflecting our Community needs. I will act with integrity and respect and my door will always be open. I have lived in Holdfast Bay for over 50 years and am a member of the Gym Glenelg and Glenelg Football Club where my daughter Ellen plays. My career history has been in Finance, Industrial Relations and Federal and State Governments; and I believe this experience will enable me to serve our Community well. Whilst Council must be financed appropriately I am mindful of rate costs: checks and balances are important. I am passionate about our Council's services to our Community and especially our senior members, assisting them in daily activities. I am keen to see our Green Spaces and Parks preserved and expanded where possible; to ensure these areas are available for future generations. Aim to make a difference.

KNOLDER Mark Photo

Retired Business Manager, Ron moved into Glenelg 33 years ago, attracted by the village atmosphere, the natural beauty and wonderful mixture of architecture. 2021 Citizen of the Year for Holdfast Bay, if elected Ron will represent ratepayers seeking to cap rates, audit footpaths and address traffic congestion. Volunteering for social justice issues, home maintenance with the community building team, Sunday picnic drives for elderly citizens, home visits with St Vincent De Paul society and various church ministries has kept Ron in touch with local people. Partner Gary is a resident artist with a recent installation at Kapara. With two daughters and 4 grandchildren, family life, faith and community and giving back are central to Ron's life. Collaboration, trust, good will and respect are essential for a successful functioning Council. If elected Ron will listen to people's problems, seek solutions and be a vigorous voice for the community.

I have been a resident of Holdfast Bay since 1972 and an active member in our community having served on many local committees and volunteer organisations. I live in Holdfast Bay with my wife Samantha and my two adult sons who have played for the Brighton Bombers and went to Sacred Heart. I am passionate about the environment and currently work for the Department for Environment and Water. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce and previously worked at the University of Adelaide, managing finance business improvement. I want to protect and improve the unique location of Holdfast Bay. I have a vision for Holdfast Bay, where the council works in harmony to achieve strategic outcomes that look to the future and lead other councils. I will support best practices and efficient use of ratepayer council rates while focussing on environmental issues including supporting renewable energy and financial management.

KIMBER Alison photo
KIMBER, Alison

Alison Kimber is passionate about superannuation and is keen to continue to contribute to the Super SA Board and to look out for members’ best interests through a time of great change, using her approachable style and her financial, risk management, governance and service delivery skills. Alison has nearly 20 years’ experience as a public servant and 10 years’ experience in the private sector. She is a member of Super SA and has a genuine care for the interests of all members. A qualified actuary, Alison is highly skilled in finance and risk management. She has a background in international banking and capital markets which helped develop her commercial acumen, as well as considerable experience in government policy and the delivery of community services. Alison has been a non-executive board director since 2009, a Board Chair since 2017, and actively contributes to the community as a volunteer and mentor. She is currently Chair, UnitingCare Wesley Bowden and also serves on the boards of Super SA, the City Renewal Authority (ACT) and the Cabaret Fringe Association. Alison is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is an elected member of its SA/NT Council.

BOLAND, Marie

I have extensive experience of working in the government sector progressing industrial relations and work health and safety reforms. I worked at SafeWork SA for fifteen years as an Inspector, Director of Policy and Executive Director. I currently operate a workplace relations consultancy. Throughout my working life I have been an active union member and my first professional role in industrial relations was as a union organiser with the Australian Services Union. I am the Presiding Officer of the Construction Industry Long Service Leave Board; appointed in 2017. It manages the Construction Industry Fund to ensure workers’ entitlements are available to them into the future. This Fund operates on management and investment principles similar to superannuation funds. I am familiar with developing, articulating and leading strategic directions in diverse policy, regulatory and political environments. I can translate complex concepts into language that is accessible to all, a skill which is important in the superannuation context. I liaise effectively, forge alliances and influence stakeholders. I operate with professionalism and integrity. I have a Master of Arts degree in history and a law degree and was admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia in 2007.

DAMIN, John

John retired in 2015 and continues to pursue part time interests in independent board membership and business advisory consulting. Prior to retirement John was the Director Financial Strategy in the Department of Premier and Cabinet. As a former FCPA and a budget branch Director in the Department of Treasury and Finance, he met regularly with the Treasurer to provide financial and policy advice. He also has experience in customer service organisations. As well as executive leadership roles, John has had experience on several government boards and committees. John understands the superannuation needs of working and retired Super SA members and seeks to represent your interests on the Super SA Board. Service excellence for members and a safe and secure superannuation management and administration strategy are John’s main ambitions in seeking this opportunity to represent members.

Dr William Griggs, AM, ASM. As an RAH doctor for many years I believe I have demonstrated a high level of dedication, passion, and care for others. From a business perspective, I completed an MBA (Adelaide University) in 2009 and became a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD) the same year. I have also served on several Boards of Not-for-Profit organizations. I have been an elected Board member of Super SA since 2009 and Chair the Member Services Committee. I am also a Board member of Return to Work SA (since 2013), and Funds SA (since 2018). I am a past Chair of the Motor Accident Commission (MAC). I have strong interests in corporate systems, finance, and governance. I am very keen to ensure that members interests are looked after well. The last 18 months have been particularly challenging, and I believe my mix of knowledge and insights into the pandemic have been helpful to Super SA. I believe this Board role is one for which I have appropriate skills and experience and hope I can continue to serve my fellow South Australians. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
