Conduct of polls

The District Council of Coober Pedy will hold polls of its electors regarding the continuation of the period of administration, the sale of Council's electricity and water assets, and the setting of municipal rate levels.

The voters roll for these polls closes at 5pm on Friday 30 August 2019

You can check if you are on the state electoral roll online on the Australian Electoral Commission's website (external link). If you do not appear on the roll and are an Australian citizen aged 18 or over you should enrol immediately via the Australian Electoral Commission website (external link).

If you are not eligible to enrol on the state electoral roll you may still be entitled to enrol to vote if you own or occupy a property or are a resident non-Australian citizen.  Contact the Council to find out how on 8672 4600 or visit the District Council of Coober Pedy's website (external link).

Voting in the polls

The polls will be conducted by post. Voting papers and pre-paid envelopes for each voting entitlement will be posted between Tuesday 1 October 2019 and Monday 7 October 2019 to every person, or designated person of a body corporate or group listed on the voters roll at roll close on Friday 30 August 2019. Voting is voluntary.

A person who has not received voting material by 5pm on Thursday 17 October 2019 and believes they are entitled to vote should contact the Deputy Returning Officer on 1300 655 232.

Completed voting material must be returned no later than 12 noon on Monday 21 October 2019.

A ballot box will be provided at the Council office on Hutchinson Street, Coober Pedy for electors wishing to hand deliver their completed voting material no later than 12 noon on Monday 21 October 2019.

Scrutiny and count

The scrutiny and count of votes will take place at the office of the Electoral Commission SA Level 6 60 Light Square at 10am on Tuesday 22 October 2019.
