Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Executive Board elections 2021

About

The Executive Board is the governing body of the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY). Every three years the APY Executive Board elections are held to elect members to the Board.

The Board consists of 14 members. There are seven electorates within the APY Lands and a male and a female will be elected to represent each electorate on the APY Executive Board.

Elections are currently underway. Voting Day is Wednesday 4 August 2021. This page has information on how to vote, as well as information about your candidates. It is not compulsory to vote in the APY Executive Board elections, but all eligible Aṉangu are encouraged to vote and to consider nominating for a position on the Board. The Board makes many important decisions about your Lands, including your roads, buildings, mining, and pastoral businesses. Voting helps to keep your community strong.

Close of roll

In order to vote and nominate you must be correctly enrolled. This means that your name and your correct address are on a list called the voters roll.

The voters roll for this supplementary election closed at 5pm on Friday 30 April 2021.

It is now too late to put your name on the voters roll or update your address for these Board elections, but you should enrol or update your enrolment for other elections coming soon.

The easiest way to enrol or update your enrolment is online:

How to vote

To vote in the APY Executive Board elections you must be:

  • Aṉangu
  • 18 years of age or over
  • Enrolled in one of the APY Lands electorates.

How to vote

Please first check the COVID safety measures we have put into place for this election.

Voting in APY Executive Board elections is different to voting in other elections. You will vote using an electronic touch screen.

The voting officers are there to help you. If you need help at any time please ask a voting officer.

This is how voting will work:

Step 1 – check your name

Before you vote, a voting officer will ask you your name so we can check that you are eligible and will then mark your name off a list.

Step 2 – choose who you want to vote for

Once your name has been marked off the list, you will stand in front of an electronic screen (like a big TV). The screen will have photos of your candidates.

To vote, you touch the photo of the person that you want to represent your electorate on the Board.

Each electorate has different candidates. You might have to make two choices (for a man and a woman) or just one, depending on which electorate you are voting for (tip - you can see all the candidates below on this webpage).

Step 3 – check your ballot paper, fold it and put it in the box

After you have voted by touching the photo/s on the screen, the system will record your vote and print out a ballot paper with the choice/s you made.

You should check the ballot paper to make sure it is correct. If there is any problem with your ballot paper let the voting officer know. If you are happy with what is on the ballot paper you should fold it and place it in the ballot box. Then voting is complete!
