A by-election for the House of Assembly district of Bragg was announced on Wednesday 1 June 2022. Those intending to contest the Bragg By-election are reminded to observe the cut-off times under the Electoral Act 1985 (the Act) if they wish to apply to participate in the election funding scheme.

Only unendorsed (i.e. independent) new candidates are now eligible to participate in the election funding scheme.

A certificate under section 130Y must be lodged on or before 5:00 pm on the day on which the person announces their candidacy or nominates, whichever occurs first, by the agent for any unendorsed (i.e. independent) candidate who is a ‘new candidate’ and has not already announced their candidacy for the 2022 Bragg By-election.

New candidate’ has the meaning set out in section 130ZF(5)(b) of the Act which states that a person is a new candidate if they have not been a candidate for a House of Assembly election within 5 years before polling day or a candidate for a Legislative Council election within 9 years before polling day.
